Lessons, Test Rides, Therapeutic-Style Rides, Regaining Confidence & Farm Visits-consultations

Click on this index or scroll down.

Lessons and test rides. If you would like to experience what it's like to ride Friesians (they are a bit different than the average American horse and vary within the breed as well), and/or want to learn/continue in English/dressage riding or perhaps simply want to get back in the saddle we will be glad to help you with one or more fun, educational, and affordable sessions on our Friesians with always a nice variety of Friesians to ride.

Therapeutic style & regaining confidence. Depending on the person in question we can even share some healing Friesian love with therapeutic-style lessons/rides. This type of riding is available for all ages but there are some restrictions based on ability level so be sure to connect with us for details. Another thing we are good at is regaining confidence in the saddle with our Friesians.

Farm Visits. Just want to visit for information, hands-on loving on the Friesians, consultation for your Friesian dream, and informational hand-outs? We can schedule that too as a 'mini clinic.' Most visits tend to take two hours. At times people show an interest to come for the day.

Why English/dressage? English/dressage training will allow you to venture out into any other discipline you might ever want to pursue and will sharpen your riding in those other disciplines. So it doesn't matter how you ride now; you can ride here.

Riding time. Mostly people ride for the standard amount of time of 45 minutes to an hour when they start to feel their riding muscles but when the interest is there we just keep going with the next Friesian to ride so we really take our time for the same low rate, answering questions along the way. As for days and times run your availability by us and we will pick a matching day and time.

Where do we ride? Currently we have available our outdoor arena with night lights and a large and fun pasture, available based on ability. Soon we will also have an indoor covered arena and trails on site.

Why us? Because we have done/are doing it all with many, many Friesians as well as KWPN warmbloods and other breeds for some 35 years.
We are not FEI rated or medaled but we stand out by having 'broken' and trained many horses (mostly Friesians but also KWPN warmbloods) since childhood, working them in all kinds of settings/at events and parades, we have retrained problem horses, desensitize, know how to ride up the levels, and responsibly work with all kinds of personalities, situations, various breeds and ages, specializing in Friesians & English/dressage, based on the timeless principles of true horsemanship and dressage training. We gladly share our knowledge with you.

Evaluation. We evaluate how we can help you and take it from there with a customized plan or just a one-time ride. We take our time with you and inform about the breed.

What can we teach you? Our 30 years of raising & training experience will be tailored to your needs helping you:
gain confidence, learn good horse-care/raising & training/riding techniques, communicate with the horse, how to get ready for various events and situations, how to avoid common pitfalls, retraining techniques, the right posture, how to hold on with your thighs and knees, not to rely on stirrups, have a relaxed seat and lower leg, a soft but steady and proper hand, to be the steady center and leader, to be proactive, riding from the back to the front (with your various body parts managing and steering different parts of the horse), working with the situation, to stay relaxed, and more of the sort, all based on your level and journey. See some of our work on the Photo Gallery page (click).
We enjoy seeing a good ride and helping you improve to have an even better ride.

Lesson tips. Be sure to read through our Lesson Tips (click or scroll) below to help us help you. See the lesson horses below by scrolling down or clicking here.

Fee schedule. Because we set aside quality time for our visitors we do gently charge. The 2012 fee schedule is:

  • Regular rate: $45 per lesson per person.
  • Buy a package of five lessons and pay only $175 (i.e. only $35 per lesson for all five). The package is transferable if you can't use them all.

Our 2012 foal will be Wieger's 2nd foal. In 2010 a filly was born sired by him and out of the TB mom in the photo (Wieger was out as a youngster with this mare at his previous home).

He is well rounded in training by Anneke (trail, traffic, parades, arena, events, and more) and is easy to work with, HOWEVER, if you bounce on him he will not take kindly to it so you have to be a more advanced rider. Facility
Newsflash! Our lifelong dream continues to take shape with another exciting step up. We are entering a construction phase and will soon have a covered arena (the Texas version of an indoor arena) with various additional features for year-round Friesian enjoyment, including pipe fencing and a remodeld home for Friesian retreats.

This is our private home on 20 acres that has come a long way over the past five years, with several wonderful projects on the schedule.

It is very horse and people friendly, but also in line with our philosophy of keeping it simple, and the horses share it with the dog, barn cats, and chickens. We have happy horses and a superb health record. We think our simplicity in start-up and set-up, glowing horses, and management is inspiring and refreshing.
  • Coming soon: an 85' x 150' indoor covered arena (the Texas version of an indoor arena) with multi purpose rec/exam/wash room, foaling stall, stallion/guest stalls, and multi-purpose storage, as well as trails on site;
  • 10-stall barn attached to the house (for our privately-owned horses) with a;
  • covered grooming/tacking/farrier area;
  • with open stalls for healthy shelter;
  • a huge run-in shelter for pasture time;
  • 2 outdoor riding arenas (one with night lights);
  • two large pastures;
  • and 3 paddocks of various sizes, two of which serve as working arenas;
  • the biggest pasture we also use as an exercise track with up/downhill trail for conditioning and trail prep;
  • very clean: manure gets removed several times a week, stalls cleaned daily, virtually weed-free, lots of fresh water;
  • several feedings a day based on season and horse needs;
  • several exercise and grooming sessions a week per horse;
  • property fully enclosed;
  • surrounded by quiet greenery as well as easy access to traffic training;
  • various trail and event/show venues nearby. All the horses go on regular outings and get regular grooming & exercise sessions.

E-mail us for details.
  • See also the Facility header above (click).

Please note: we do NOT offer pasture board.

What sets us apart? We train our horses without gimmicks and the way people like them (all English): soft, responsive, and well rounded appropriate to their age, background, and time in training, exposing them to:

  • arena
  • show
  • trail
  • traffic
  • event outings & parades
  • flag riding
  • bareback bridleless
  • one-handed
  • prep for side saddle
  • desensitization, gun practice, police training
  • continued ed for trained horses
  • 'breaking' the green horse.

Needless to say horses have to work their way up so each horse is at a different level. We share our knowledge on our quarterly Friesian Clinic Series / Raising & Training the Friesian days (click here for full details on the index page).

We have 30 years of experience training Friesian horses. We train both trained Friesians and green Friesians, and even retrain problem horses. All the lesson horses on this page, the horse depicted in the header of this page, and many more are trained/saddle broken by Anneke.

'Breaking' green horses is an undervalued, underappreciated, and misunderstood process where many trainers, owners, and Friesians are concerned.
  • Ever notice how Friesians tend to not buck much but can be 'bolters'? As loveable, kind, trainable, and gentle the Friesian is, they are easy to wreck. Learn why, and how to prevent/retrain it at our quarterly Friesian clinics.
  • Friesians require a bit of a different approach, even if they are still 'just' horses. It is easy to break a Friesian's spirit with the wrong approach and pushing them too fast too soon.
  • Owners tend to focus on cutting cost, corners, and time not understanding every horse is different, the Friesian is different, and that breaking the horse is the foundation for the future. Without a good foundation there is trouble in the forecast, whether a Grand Prix trainer did it or a 'regular' trainer. There also seems to be peer pressure to get the horse from 0 to 60 in a '30-day-miracle.'
  • It is a specialized skill as it can be dangerous if not handled right. Ask yourself why many dressage trainers do not want to break horses. They want the glory but not the grunt work behind the scenes, and they are experienced!
  • We work based on trust, kindness, and respect.
  • We also encourage participation in the process of the owner and if possible future trainer; just because we get the horse to do what we taught it (with proper, universal teaching) doesn't mean someone else will unless they have the appropriate skill level, especially when it concerns a horse new under saddle. This interest is unfortunately often lacking and we take no responsibility for such continued efforts.
  • For all training horses we require a minimum commitment of 90 days in training. Depending on the horse and needs things can go faster but if there is no commitment for 90 days we cannot help you.
See the Facility header above (click) for details on our set-up.
