How We
Found Sanne
In
1997 when Anneke was ready for Friesian-horse ownership she started looking for
a foal and remembered that childhood Friesian Alice (Lammert 260 x
Ritske 202 ster) had a filly at her side during that year's summer
vacation in The Netherlands. The foal was Alice's first in five years
and was to be her last: timing is everything! The childhood claim "one day
I will buy a foal from Alice" became true. Sanne B. (B. stands
for the breeder's last name) was the first Anne 340 offspring
imported into the United States. Sanne is from stam 111 with a 2.95%
inbreeding coefficient and 3 generations ster behind her. She was a 2nd premie
youngster and received very good scores on her linear scoring sheet,
however, due to the remnants of a hock operation (making one hock spongy
but not affecting movement) she was unable to
become ster as the three generations before her did. Still, she comes
from good stock, has great presence, and with her foals it looks like she
will make an excellent brood mare. Sanne stands at 16.1 hands/1.65m
tall. Sanne's dam Alice passed away in the summer
of 2005 at the ripe old age of 24. Sleep tight childhood horse! Sanne's grand dam Pitie had to be put down at about 22 years old in
the late '80s not for poor health but her joints were worn out from
hard labor as a youngster. We hope Sanne, Remco, and now Weidebloem inherited the
genes of old age. Read a little bit of history about Sanne's dam and
grand dam on the

Training and Shows
We do our own training: from ground work
to trail rides, basic dressage, jumping, and showing. With
common sense, consistency, and the Friesian's character we find it easy
to train them and it saves a lot of money. Sanne knows a
wide range of voice commands, can be ridden bareback/bridleless,
and even does a few tricks. We have participated in many
parades with as the highlight the nationally televised 2003
Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade. We always score high
in the parade contest. We don't compete due to a lack of
time but have attended a
couple of
open English IFSHA shows (two times a 2nd
place in dressage suitability and walk trot out of a group
of some eight combinations). Now she has turned into a brood
mare and we have too many horses to ride to focus on
advancing her. We have also represented the FHANA at quite a
few horse fairs such as the Illinois Horse Fair in
Springfield IL, the Northern Illinois Horse Fest in
Belvidere IL, the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison WI, and
various other breed demos. In Springfield in 2004 we placed
2nd out of 28 breed demos! Sanne inspired a great deal of
(new) Friesian fans and we are thrilled that together we can
give back of what we received over the years. Sanne ground
drives but has not been hitched yet. To be continued.

Future Plans
Since our move to Texas we have
discovered the parades and horse events in Texas
to attend. Our new FHANA chapter
South Central Friesian Horse Assocation
and web business have connected us with the quality local Friesian crowd to share events
and activities with. Sanne will primarily be a brood mare.
She had a beautiful filly, her 2nd foal, from Feike 395 in the spring of
2007 and will be rebred this spring to Michiel 442 (Tsjerk x
Leffert, see picture). She
turned out to be a fabulous mom and a great lesson horse for
beginners and children. We can
always count on her when she is needed.
